We are seeking a skilled Solar Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, engineering, and optimization of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across residential, commercial scale projects. This role involves preparing detailed layouts, conducting energy yield assessments, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for solar PV projects and BESS-hybrid systems).
- Prepare system layouts, single line diagrams (SLDs), and electrical schematics using CAD and relevant design tools.
- Perform solar resource assessment and energy yield analysis using software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or SolarGIS.
- Conduct site assessments (remote) to evaluate feasibility, shading, orientation, and roof.
- Calculate cable sizing, voltage drop, isolator ratings, and protection requirements in accordance with IEC UK standards.
- Support planning and permitting by preparing technical documents, drawings, and reports.
- Evaluate inverter, module, and BOS equipment for suitability and compliance with project specifications.
- Prepare bill of materials (BOM), technical specifications, and tender documents.
- Ensure designs comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
- Support commissioning and performance testing by providing technical input and as-built documentation.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of solar PV system design (residential).
- Proficiency in design software: AutoCAD, PVSol, PVsyst.
- Solid understanding of UK Grid Code, G99/G100, DNO application process, and international electrical standards.
- Excellent technical report writing, presentation, and documentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field.
- 1-2 years’ experience in solar PV design (experience in BESS design is advantageous).
- Demonstrated experience with energy yield analysis and PV performance modeling.
